Hi! I’m Nabilah,

When I was 8 years old, one day the doctor said I had cancer – Acute Myeloid Leukemia (ALL). Ever since then, I spent most of my time in the hospital. I missed playing with my sisters, little brother, neighbours and my school friends. Anyway, I would get very weak when I start to play with them.

I travelled to the hospital very frequently. My father would drive my mother and me to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital very early in the morning so that I would able to make it for the registration to see the doctor. Being early would also allow him to drive down to Masjid Tanah, Melaka just in time for work.

My mother stayed with me in the hospital. Sharp needles would sometimes prick my body, and this was chemotherapy as explained by mother. She said it would kill the cancer cells in my body. Once it’s all over, I would be able to play with my friends again. But this medicine made me very tired, I vomitted a lot every time I had chemotherapy and after sometime, I barely had hair left on my head. My hair just kept falling and it made me so sad, it also saddened my mother, but she just put on a brave smile and gave me lots of big hugs.

I sometimes got to see my siblings during the weekends when father brought them along to meet me. I was happy to be around my older sisters Nadia and Aini and also my little brother. Now, I am 10 years old and making slow recovery, my visits to hospital have reduced but I still make follow-up visits.

My father works as a technician, he loves me a lot, and I love him too. I see many sick children in the hospital. I do tell them I had what they had, but now I am feeling better, and I just asked them to hang on so that one day they would be better too. I enjoy studying, writing and colouring. I go to school, but am forced to take short breaks at times because my body becomes very weak and I need to rest a lot.

I am glad I was referred to MAKNA as my father’s small salary was never enough to support us when I needed special nutrition to boost my immune system. Complications may just set in when least expected. Some of you can definitely help children like me.

Thank you for giving me hope!

Love you all.
Nabilah
